JACK FRUIT

One of the largest tropical fruit of a tree is the jack fruit. There are others, from pumkin  family, which is larger.

My neighbor was kind enough to offer me, a fruit from a tree behind hid house.

I does not look like it is ripe. The thorn is a bit small.
However, the ripe smell was already appearance

When we opened it. It was ok, Already ripe enough for consumption

Likely it is a Nangka Madu. Which are commercially planted.

AIRLAYER FOR PAPAYA

It had been a long time since I did the airlayer of my papaya tree. This morning I tried again.

1. Choose a good brunch to cut and airlayer.

Steady the brunch with some string. This is to aid the plant to withstand wind.

2. Cut about 50% of the brunch, put a separating wood and some rooting compound. Separating wood prevents the healing of the brunch.

Cut about 50%

put a wooden separator

3. Install a plastic container

4. Put some soil or other planting material

put soil and water it.

5. Then water it and mark the date . Expected to root in 4 weeks.

6. Today 2 July 2021. There was a good sign, the roots start to appear. I have to wait, 2 more weeks to see that the number of roots should increase. If it does not increase, I may have to continue to plant it. Roots do not last forever. They will start to die off.

roots appear, but they tried to come out tru the holes

PROCESSING DURIAN

This is the first time I saw how a during fruit is being used to grow larvae.

I saw a video, supposed to be in mainland China, a seller prepare th larvae to be sold to a buyer.

I was surprise, the durian that were exported to China from Malaysia are not be consumed by the Chinese. However the fruits are being used as the breeding ground for the baby caterpillars.

I always wonder how it taste like, I never have the courage to try.

Another IBT Added to My List

On 6 May 2016, I bought 2 more figs seedlings....

- One IBT  and the other is of unknown variety. According to the seller, the taggings were missing when she went on holiday and the caretaker mishandled the trees, thus the tags went missing.

On Sunday 8 May, I put the trees into pots.

The earlier TGF bought by my wife  was growing happily.

Here is the photo ........

Pasu 14 inch. Pasu di isi batu supaya tanahnya tidak hilang.

Another  TGF yin a polybag to be planted.

The unknown variet seem to be healhtier.

More figs to be potted

It only took 4 months for the fig tree to bear its first fruit.

It was very sweet. Guess what, there was no pest and the birds and squirrels.

DURIAN TUPAI KING

I am not a durian expert, but when the price was quoted to be rm100 per kg, it interest me. Not that I will buy it for the cost is too much. But it interest me as, there are many people will to part with their cash for a taste that last a few minutes.

A video to introduce the durian. Another surprise, the story about durian is published overseas, a copy from Los Angeles Times is attached to prove the point.

DIMINISHING TREES

The Star 15 Jun 2021
As developments progresses, the natural forest and trees diminish. That is what happening in Malaysia, especially the development center in Selangor.  There is a spot of Forest Reserve in the center of Shah Alam, the Bukit Cherakah, a green lung in the middle of the brick's jungle.

The Community Forest Society wants the plot to be gazetted as Forest Reserve, to retain its ecological, recreational and educational center. Many fear the greed for cash and revenue may push the green lung to be traded for development.

Many objected to the idea of building a interconnecting road across the park,

It remains hopeful that Malaysian Trees and Forest are preserved for the future generations.
